I've put Monty (sorry, I couldn't help myself...!) over in our 'vegetable patch' (currently an immensely overgrown plot on the other side of a small farm track to us that we have) as I've seen all kinds of small birds, including green finches (which I think this fella is??). He fluttered onto the floor but it's under the most-frequented tree & it's well-sheltered. In honesty it's the most likely place where the little madam got him from

It is a juvenile Greenfinch and the parents should still be around and hopefully find it again.

You've done the right thing Ellen and popped him somewhere where hopefully he'll shout for his parents and they'll come back for him:fingers crossed:...

I went and had a look after we got back from taking Reggie for a walk, no sign of him so fingers crossed mum found him. His wing & tail feathers looked pretty well-developed so hopefully he won't be long being able to fly. He could flutter downwards.

He was so lovely though, started falling asleep in my hand at one point!

Ah fingers crossed he was found by his parents

My cats bought in a baby blackbird while i was at work one day and my ex put it out in the garden in a covered area and then came and picked me up from work

By the time we got back it was back in the kitchen and extremely distressed. Didnt know what to do so my elderly neighbour took him. Im guessing he humanly killed it because my cats would of just kept bringing it back again and again. They are like dogs with a bone at times

Hoping your one had a much better fate. Yours looks older and more developed so has half a chance

The one my cats bought in was just covered in fluffy feathers and hadn't developed proper feathers yet

Thanks @Dips :) I'm hoping he was mature enough to have made it. I've not seen him since

Cats kill over fifty million birds every year, and that's a conservative estimate.

Ours has a bell, it drives us potty but doesn't seem to stop her! Admittedly she catches more mice & voles than she does birds, apparently they hunt birds differently to rodents
