My Musella Lasiocarpa banana plant in a large container with JI 3 and grit, main body approx 50cm tall.

For last 2 years a number of pups/suckers 10 or more have emerged from around the base.

Reading about of when to remove the pups. It says container plant maybe more likely to suffer with pups/suckers due to stress of some kind, although watered well etc. But after winter storage in my shed wrapped in a fleece for frost protection. The soil remained damp/wet.

So if I was to plant in the ground as most do and where Monty removes his plants as recently on GW. My soil is clay and if planted, what sort of size hole I should provide and what media to add to help ease the removal for winter if I dont winter protect it in the ground.

I,ve had a couple of these in posts for a few years and get the same problem, too many pups.
I,ve got one planted out next to some m.basjoo which pretty much does nothing, slow to get going and probably a bit too dry.

I m not sure about planting out and then lifting in autumn, only ever done that with Ensete.
Which I used to plant in a section of my allotment just in the normal soil.
These grew like crazy and eventually I couldn't lift them anymore.

You lose a fair amount of roots when lifting but you need to trim them anyway.
