So thank you to all input already on how to start my garden... And what a great idea to share the different stages as well as having some thing to look back on :)

After a few months of hard graft ...it doesn't look much different! But we are getting somewhere..... Shed base ready for concreting over Easter weekend...bench area.... Another seating area .......and general view back down the garden, now the hawthorn jungle has gone it looks so much lighter. I am planning on bird friendly hedges for the back and a meadow area.. The rest I'm a bit unclear on yet!

And our reuse of the sleepers and stones already in the garden is looking quite good even if I do say so myself :)

Great start there. But it's a shame you got rid of the hawthorn jungle. A lot of wildlife enjoy the blooms and fruits. Birds love the fruit in the winter.

Also try to rotate your photos in the future, it's giving me neck ache! ;)

Ha jungle Jane... If I'm a newbie at gardening I'm even newer at computer-y things! And I am replacing the hawthorn, but I had to be able to get in and out of my own garden :noidea: I need a bit of a Windbreak at the end of the garden so have found a bird friendly hedge mix that is arriving next week so actually get to plant something ....at last!

Take all your shots in landscape in the future and you should be fine :blue thumb:

Lovely looking bench btw. I bet that cost a few quid.

What hedges did you plant in the end?

I went for lonicera nitada, apparantly faster growing than box I bought them bareroot... I am abit dubious of them actually becoming a hedge by the looks of them :/ i saw a similar bench with a formal hedge around it in a garden driving one day and would love it be recreated in my lil' garden god knows how long it will take?

The path is looking good Clueless76. :dbgrtmb: I bet the dog walked all the way down it, all that garden but it prefers the path.

well got some planting done! I have been so worried about how to begin planting the bed googling everything...then went to the nursery...picked what was pretty and in they went! Hopefully I have not done too bad a job... Just need some filler plants now so any suggestions are more than welcome..... Not too many little fiddly dead head jobs though! I have gone for pinks purples and whites am unsure whether to add more colour or stick to what I've got?
