I have quite a lot of weeds to clear including nettles and some nasty looking thorns. I think the first thing I need is a decent pair of gloves. Any recommendations for ones that the thorns won't go through?

        Hi,

I had a very large 3mtr high Pyracantha brush to cut down and knew I needed something good as they have evil thorns.

Found these Welders gloves saved not only my hands but covered well up over the wrists.
They do seem a bit stiff to start with but soon become pliable.

Worth asking the shop if you can just try them on first as they might be a bit too big if you have smaller hands.

Another pair I got was their cheaper Rigger gloves which also seem fairly thorn proof , though no wrist protection and again only one size.

For general gardening find their cheap Palm or Supergrip gloves very handy and they do come in several sizes, though being lightweight just dirt proof , not thorn proof.

Thankyou, that's a really good idea about the welding things. I'd been looking on Amazon and seen a similar pair but they were £13. Wouldn't have thought of looking where you did

          Hi,

ricky101 has already mentioned rigger gloves; I use rigger gloves a lot and buy mine from Rufforth Auto jumble at 12 pair for £10; if I'm working where wrist and arm protection is needed I usually wear my heavy "Site" coat; given our dire Yorkshire weather I can wear the site coat most of the year. The downside of both welding and rigger gloves is they aren't waterproof; I have plastic coated gloves on the palms for wet working.

Red Rigger Gloves - Single Palm - Conforms to EN 388 CAT II (4144) - [HT-REDRIGGER]

The rigger gloves shown above are hard working and quite stiff to use at first; I use this kind for welding too. I have a brand new pair of welding gloves bought years ago but I've never used them finding them a bit cumbersome.

I also buy the coated palm gloves from Rufforth at similar price to the rigger gloves.

A belated welcome to the forum LittleEd. :yahoo:

          Kind regards, Colin.

Military gloves are cheap and strong.
