There are some bargains around, you just have to nurture them until the spring. Box plants are very hardy though, just make sure the pot doesn't freeze.

Does anyone know how quickly Box grows ?

I bought a load of 5-6" plants in the summer hoping to make a decent hedge. How long before i can trim into a hedge around 2 feet high ?

    Box growing times

    Hi
I can help with this one,
planting box is like planting any plant, it's the ground prep and after care that needs doing,

Ive box cuttings all around my 2acre garden and the advice i'd give is not only ensure the you used fish/blood/bone mixed in the preperation hole but after planting get yourself some "box feeder"
It's a liquid mix feed and it will really get the box going.
When you think about it box planted next to box are all needing to be fed hence you need good ground prep & then regular feeding after that.

During this time of the year the box wont do much but again a bit of T.L.C like a mulch to keep the roots from freezing or even fleece covering will only do good and not harm the box in any way,
When you think about it the roots are only just under the soil level and will freeze!

I found my box hedging that was approx 6inch high when i bought it this last april, will take about 3 years to become thick and all at the same level,
I do clip the odd fast growing parts to try and both help the roots to grow and not put all its strength into these faster growing tips but other than that ive always left the box to grow good roots and then and only then do i start to train into a nice 12inch thick bedding border.

      Thanks for that
I planted mine in June last year, they grew but some looked to go a bit brownish. I fed and watered them regulary. A seaweed folia feed every month to try and help. I will have to dig them up again now as i need to put a patio in. They will be re planted around this new patio with these two new Golf ball plants marking the entrance.

      Thats the plan anyway.
