Is there an accepted effective method to keep birds from tucking into freshly scattered lawn seeds?
The area in question is about 5m x 15m.
Unfortunately, next door has built a theme park for the feathered creatures so I'm sure that won't help!
I've seen models of birds of prey. I guess the ultimate device would be an automatic pulley system that races a model dog or cat across every 5 minutes!
    Thanks.

String black cotton criss-crossed a few inches above the seedlings.

I've carried this quote over from another thread because it has pictures of what FC did to scare the birds off his lawn

The foil on strings has been reasonably effective for me - that, and the good advice from our @Sheal to cover the seed with a light covering of compost/topsoil to get it started - if the birds can't see it, they won't go looking for it.

Or you could cover it in a plastic sheet until it appears as once it germinates the birds will leave it alone. :)

On my allotment plot I have trouble with birds of all shapes and sizes, and what I do is put in plenty of cane's and fasten polistyrene to them on a longish piece of string, this flaps about in the wind and also bangs on the canes,

I just use old plastic water or squash bottles upside down on canes. They bang into the canes as well - seems to work against birds and cats.

I heard of using plastic bottles as well, but filling them with water and laying them on the garden.Never tried it myself but I've was told that the birds and cats see their images in the water and it scares them off.
