well I've picked my tomatoes and tried them and they have a really bad taste very disappointing, anyone know why? They were small cherry ones.

Were the plants or fruit distorted in any way?

Very slight exposure to certain weedkillers can cause strange tasting toms, but usually the plant would show signs as well.

    Its just an idea.

It is simply lack of sun.

The fruit need sunshine, not heat. to turn the starch into sugars and we have had very little in July.
(That is why the tomatoes bought in supermarkets are tasteless, they get lots of heat)

I grow beef tomatoes and they started to fruit in the middle of June.
The tomatoes were very sweet then, but as the so called summer has gone on, with lack of sunshine the tomatoes have just lost all their taste!

What we need is some long ours of sunshine, as do the holiday resorts!

    Cheers!

The very first one or two tomatoes always seem to taste a bit 'funny' to me as well (not bad though). It happens every year, I think because the first few have taken so long to ripen. Wait and see what the rest are like.

Makka bakka hit the nail on the head. Direct sunlight to the tomato is what gives it its sweetness (meaning the actual fruit not the plant).
