Hi everyone. A few months ago I saw some black/purple splodges on my lawn. This was under an overhanging tree so presumed bird poo. Since then, flat, round brown worm casts? have appeared and are now spreading across the lawn. Also, the earth is sometimes oily, thick black. The tree overhanging has black dots all over the remaining leaves. It's very unsightly in the grass. Any advice appreciated, thanks.

Welcome to Gardeners Corner Jenny. :) A close up picture or two of the problems you are having would help us please but as you are a new member you may not be able to do that just yet because of site restrictions.

The worm casts are not an issue, they tend to appear during wet or cooler weather and the fact that worms are present usually means your soil is in a reasonable/good condition. If you don't like them you can sweep them off.

Are you saying that the soil looks oily and black or the grass? The tree obviously has a disease on it's leaves but that shouldn't affect your lawn.

Thanks, will try again with the photo's. On one patch, there are thick, oily black patches on/mixed up in the grass. Then next to and on top, there are these flat, round coils/spirals which then go white on top as if going mouldy. Will try again with pics!
