This is reputed to be one of the simplest cooking ventures there is. Yet, while I'm reasonably good at cooking, I cant seem to get boiled eggs right.

    Hows it done anyone please?

My Marans eggs are pretty large, and I like them very freshly laid (that days at the oldest) and fresh eggs take a bit longer than stale ones.

So firstly make sure the eggs are room temp rather than out of the fridge. (helps prevent cracking the egg whilst cooking)

Then bring enough water the eggs to a full rolling boil.
Put the egg on a spoon and gently lower it into the water,
Bring back to the boil and start to time - you can lower the heat or take the pan off the heat once the water is back to boiling temp.

It will then be trial and error as to how many minutes you like yours cooked.

I prefer just under 5 minutes.

Take it out of the water, and eat straight away as the egg will continue to cook. So have your toast or bread and butter done before the egg will be finished cooking.

If you feel the first egg is slightly overdone, then break the top on the second one to prevent it cooking too much more.

    Anyway - that's how I cook my eggs. :)

I like mine with just a 'touch' of softness (by which I mean slightly runny but only right in the centre of the yolk) - am I the only one?

Why not go for poached eggs - you can see when they're done to your liking.
