bolting

    my seedlins seem to have very long stems about 6 or 7 inches long
    they are tomato seedlings ,
    is this bolting

    stretching because of lack of light its a bit to early for tommys yet.I would chuck em out and start again.If this happened end of March I would move on to a larger pot and plant deeper,but at the moment its just to early,sorry

    Do they have their true leaves,why don't you just repot them into larger pots and bury them right up to their leaves all.My toms dont go in the ground till June almost ,they sit quite happy in pots.Just an idea.

    It's not 'bolting', we call it going 'leggy'. It's because there is not enough light, too much warmth, too close together or a combination of all these. As lazydog says its too early to be sowing tomatoes unless you have growlights and plenty of space indoors.

    The best time to sow is mid-march, then put the seedlings on a sunny windowsill - aim to get them in the greenhouse mid-may or if you are planting outside, late may/early june. :thumbsup:

      I've grown some (about 2 weeks ago) on my window sill and they're growing very well, have 3/4 sets of true leaves, already.
