Just booked a service call for my boiler with British Gas, website wouldn't let us book when we wanted, had to call, all sorted. (Even though its in 2 months time)

How long have you had to "wait" before you can get some one (the right some one) to service* something you have? e.g Car, house alarm, washing machine, boiler.

service* as in service it for its annual service, its not broken down.

I have no problems at all getting people to service items within a reasonable amount of time. But on a different note, plumbers are as rare as gold dust! Where do they all disappear to when you need one?

If British Gas expended half as much time, effort and money in dealing with their customers as they do advertising themselves and telling us how wonderful they are, the world would be a much calmer place. I have a BG 'Homecare' agreement, 24/7 I can ring up and get 'a man' to sort out my drains, my leaking whatever even my ('nominated') electrical applicances - ring them for anything else and even at 2 a.m. I suspect I'd still get the '.... we are experiencing unusually high demand ... ' recording (* goes off, takes calming pill, comes back*)

I no longer even bother trying to get BG to come and service my boiler - each time they have, they've had to make at least 2 further visits because the servicing man has managed to render it in need of repair, thus I use a local Gas Safe (formerly CORGI) registered engineer, who happens to live in the next road from me and has a local reputation for good service to maintain.

Just as a BTW - in my experience, I found the best way to get BG to come is not to try and contact them. If you've a boiler fairly recently installed by them, they'll write and tell you it needs servicing and, if you don't reply to the first, second or even third such letter, eventually they write to you and say they're going to come on such-and-such day.

I, also, only use local tradesmen. I phoned up the other day to get mine serviced and he's booked in for the 16th Aug - he's on holiday for a week in between. He's coming at a convenient time and I've found that he's never more than 30 minutes from the time he promises.
