My Bromelia suffered from a little neglect and now the red 'flower' at the top has died and turned yellow/brown but the base of the plant, the leaves, are still nice and green. I hadn't been keeping the 'flower' watered. So what do I do, remove the dead bit? Any Bromelia experts out there?

Not an expert, but, with most bromeliads the rossete of leaves die after flowering and side shoots eventually form.
You do however need pretty good growing conditions, ie. light humidity and heat to be sucsessful. Most people dont bother and throw the plant away, but if you want to try, there's nothing to lose.

Ok thanks, it would be a shame to throw such a big plant away though.
