Brunnera Jack Frost

I have 5 of the above. They all look as tho they are reverting to plain green which I am not pleased about. I am not generally keen on variegated varieties of plants but do like this variety of Brunnera as opposed to the plain green. I was visiting various Fife gardens today (open garden scheme) and noticed a few more which also looked to be reverting. Any ideas as to why this may be happening? Maybe they are too well here and have recovered from the virus which made them variegated I presume.

 

I had this plant in fact I have just bought another, I know that you should remove any plain green leaves as soon as they appear, I did this with my first one as it seemed to work.

Mentioning it to a friend, she says that Jack Frost is very liable to reversion from it's seed which is what mine are. Evidently you are only likely to keep the "frost" if you get divisions of another. Oh well they did stay frosted for about 3 years. I will pull of the pure green leaves and see if that helps altho pal says this is unlikely.

 

Seed grown cultivars will seldom look as the parents do.

Is best to buy from a garden centre which will be from tissue cultured stock.
Or divide a clump of a known cultivar.

 

I've got some (that I paid good money for! so hopefully "sound"). Not sure how big they are as yet, but you are welcome to some bits once they are ready for division.
