Yesterday we caught two bugs in our house and three more this evening.

Mrs Shiney thinks that the ones she caught, and threw out, were like this one that we've just caught.

This looks like a vine weevil beetle to me. Am I correct?

The one I caught yesterday was about the same length but wider and rounder and, from memory, a shiny black - but not a cockroach. Any ideas?

We got another one about five minutes after having started this thread. :rolleyespink:

Any idea whether we should kill them or liberate them? At the moment they are in storage :snork:

Don't think it's Vine Beetle purely by googling images (I'm no beetle expert). They look harmless to me, I'd let them go. I reckon it's to do with the heatwave and will be coming out of those fields at the back of your garden. Last weekend our front door was covered in small black midges just for one day, something about the colour must have attracted them.

Definitely not a weevil...a harmless ground beetle of some sort. Free them!

They have now been released. Thanks everyone. :blue thumb:

They're quite big boys, or girls, at about 1" long.

We're not sure how they could have got indoors.

From the land of nearly every insect known to mankind, yours look pretty harmless, @shiney :) Vine weevils are shorter, more rounded and a dusty-looking black or grey. Mind you, yours could be related to capricorne or vrillettes.....they eat one's house

I'd be inclined to release them near someone else's house as it looks pretty much like a vine weevil to me, only the size suggests something else.
This is Essex folks and thing get seriously big.

They are ground beetles and they are good guys - they eat slugs! I have a few coming into house too at the moment - could be looking for moisture.
