The tall one on the right is Euphorbia horrida.

What sort of soil are they growing in?
        Probably some manky peat?

They will be happier in a loam based soil with plenty of grit.

I will note that and make him a label, any idea with the others, I have done nothing with then, not even watered, so can I mix up some compost with sand to get a free draining mix, then I might tackle them, I seem to remember an article about wrapping newspaper round them, to protect yourself from the spines, They spiked me about 6 times just getting them home,,,In a tray I might add. :chicken:

Make sure to use course sand.

The tall one on the left is on of the Ceroids. A closeup may help.

And the short one in front is a Ferocactus.

Sal, a lot of cacti are ok down to quite low temperatues.
The trick is to keep them dry. And to have a dry atmosphere with a bit of air movement if possible. Damp stagnant air can cause all sorts of problems.

My cacti have all developed what looks like salts on them,I have lifted them from pots to look at root ends and the pot they are in is 2 or 3 inches from the base, so any water I give them rushes through and the cactus has to grab what it can, the tall one has 3 long roots going down into the water I also have them on a south facing window.

[IMG]Is there something wrong or is this normal, the tall one when I looked last evening had dew like drops which I assume is drying to the salty look.

Spray them with soapy water. Washing up liquid in water is fine and then let them dry. You may have to repeat this to get rid of them completely.

Methylated spirit on a small paintbrush is often advised for mealy bug.
