Could someone advise what sort of plant food you should give cactus plants - are they lime hating plants or not. Any advice would be welcome - these cacti plants are lucky - they are sitting on a terrace in Menorca in a very pleasant temperature indeed.

In general desert cacti are not lime haters.

You can buy specific cacti fertilizer, but I, not being a specialist, just use a balanced fertilizer for a couple of feeds in spring, and perhaps a high potash feed in late summer.
It should be very dilute and about half normal strength.

Most cacti will do pretty well on a very meagre feeding programme in the UK, but not sure about in Menorca, where presumably growth is faster and longer.

They are not easy to kill, overwatering being the best method.:D

Probably not likely over there though.

Am in two minds wether to mention this as it might complicate the issue, but most desert cacti tend to grow in late winter early spring, taking a rest during the hot dry months.
You could probably follow this regime with yours.

I used specialized cactus feed on mine once, but the best result I ever had was those roundish whitish/grey granule of "universal", slow release fertilizer you get for the whole garden. Scattered a bit on the surface in spring, and forgot about it. THe greener and fattest cacti I ever had ;-)
