    Hi all,

Daft question, but one of these should be calabrese brocolli and the other cut and come again lettuce. Which is which?

Also, how and when do you ‘cut’ the lettuce?

    Thanks!

Neither are lettuce, both are brassicas.

      Oh :roflol:.

Completely new to this. Ordered one calabrese brocolli and one cut and come again lettuce seedlings a couple of weeks ago, and these are what arrived. Unlabelled so had no idea.

I’m about to plant them in containers. What am I likely to get? Have no idea what brassicas are.

      Thanks!

      Hi,

Are you intending to grow them indoors in the pots, they can be quiet big plants and generally one for outdoors.

The Cut and Come again, means that once the main head is formed and you harvest it by cutting off just the head, then the plant should continue to grow side shoots and put out several smaller heads for you to harvest later.

Lettuce , the type known as C&C are also know more generally called Salad Leaves, which grow loose leaved and you pick or cut these young leaves off near the base and they will come again and again, unlike the one time round lettuces such as Iceberg.

Lettuce are usually quiet easy to grow from seed and the Salad leave types can be grown just about anywhere in pots or the soil.

Brassicas are pretty much anything that are cabbage like, not lettuce.

Brassicas tend to have grey green foliage and an almost waxlike look to the surface. Lettuce tend to be brighter, more densely packed leaves, little or no visible stem, thinner glossier leaves.
The top one looks more like a broccoli and the bottom one with the crinkle edge leaves looks like a kale. No guarantee on the id.
