I just love the C viminalis and mine was spectacular this past year with hundreds of brushes ... but not as spectacular as our Walnut's one (he lives in Warrington, Cheshire but doesn't visit us any more) ...

Ah, another thought Al, you can perhaps also do the Melaleuca (Tea Tree) ... here's mine side by side ...

Strongy grew a lot of these so perhaps he could advise.

I've seen a few growing in Cheshire, al, although I don't have one. I have thought about it but some the tenderness aspects have held me back on growing one. I'm sure that there a quite a few of the gang who grown them though, and you are in a mild part of Cheshire.:snork:

Al, these are great for you with young children as both the C viminalis and Melaleuca have 'soft fronds', lovely to touch ... I often do as I walk past. The other Callistemons are 'sharp' and not to my liking at all.

Is this also known as the bottle brush tree? I has seen them in my local garden centre in Crosby so must be happy with the local climate here?

Hi Yvonne, there has been some in quite a few garden centres here on the wirral, but the same garden centres are selling non hardy stuff too. I don't know anything about these but now I know that they are then a space shall be put aside in my border.

al's right, Yvonne. Plant Nurseries do sell plants that perhaps are not suitable for the area where they are. It's a case of tempting people just like in a Cake Shop!!!:heehee:
