What variety of Campanula is it that is so often seen growing in borders and on garden walls? They are a blue/lilac colour and grow horizontally as opposed to vertically.

      Could be either C. Portenshlagiana

      posch.jpg

      Or....

      C. Poshcharskyana

      Or any of their cultivars/varieties.

These are both good spreaders and can easily reach 3 Ft it more in one season.

Many thanks to both of you for the replies, I'm now pondering whether to grow any from seed or buy plants.

        Are those all hardy varieties?

Hello MadHedger, they are easily grown from seed. Now is the perfect time to sow them, being hardy perennials you sow them between May/July and plant them out in the final positions in th Autumn.

Bear in mind the difference between portenschlagiana and garganica.....the former is very invasive. Not something I would grow here. Garganica spreads but slowly and easily controlled TheMadHedger
Buy a couple of plants and divide them. Pot them up or plant out directly. :)
