Solved Can anyone ID this plant?

    Saw this in a somewhat neglected office garden by Poole park. Mid July. Can anyone put a name to it and tell me anything about it?

      Thanks Pete, you've got it. Looking it up though, it wouldn't thrive in my shaded garden.

      You would be surprised.
      Although S.African I find it likes a dampish spot.
      It stops growing in my garden during the summer and starts again in autumn.
      Any thing below minus 3c in winter is likely to cut it to the ground.
      Once established it's pretty reliable.

        Looked ok to me last week although some of the other pants in that bed looked less healthy.
        It probably doesn't care the care and attention that the other flower beds in the park get.

          It would be worth having a go.. Quite a handsome foliage..

            The one in the picture looks in good condition I would say.

              I'd love to give it a go, but my garden's very dry and shady, don't think it would be at all happy!
