can anyone identify these two plants, please?

    a detail shot of the first plant. Each flower cluster is about an inch long DSC_0040s.jpg
    And here's the shape of the plant - about 3 foot high, quite straggly in growth style DSC_0037s.jpg
    ...possibly a bird-seed planting?


    The second plant - i know, not quite in flower yet. It's a cutting I took from our holiday cottage last year, so I'm sure the flowers will be quite impressive when open. I'd like to be able to tell hubby what it is, when he sees the first flower! DSC_0034s.jpg

    Last one looks like Agastache, possibly Blue Fortune or Blue Boa? Depending on the height

        I've just found my wild-flower identification book (was hiding under a novel)...

        I think it is more like a Lucerne? The leaflets are always in threes -trefoil - all the way down the stem. The stem is ridged, but not hairy...
        I will try not to let it seed, but the bees and hoverflies love it!

        We do have common vetch elsewhere, but this purple plant is on a completely different scale. Self-supporting, has a branching habit, and is dwarfing the Veronica.

            Your first is Lucerne you are right. Used as a green manure by farmers often.

            Your second one could be Enchanters nightshade. If it is don't let it seed it will take over in a flash.

              2. Sian...any chance of a clear pic of the open flower.
              Enchanters nighshade has several tiny white flowers on a stalk.
              Your plant has a single blue bud.

              I don't think it is enchanters nightshade, which I think is an altogether smaller plant. This one is over a foot high, and wide. The flower spike seems to have developed (still no sign of a white flower), so I will take a photo in the morning....

                @Sian in Belgium no it isn't not enchanters you are right but now I am now wondering if it is Salvia - blue anise sage perhaps.? Just a thought as was just looking at some.. :SUNsmile:
