Can anyone identify this Clematis?

    My wife bought and planted this Clematis a number of years ago. I asked her what it was and she has forgotten. This picture was taken today and the flowers are about four inches across.

      Well its a group 2 clematis that's a start . Have trawl through thorncroft clematis or taylors clematis in the pruning Group 2 section and see if you can match it . Try not to buy anything ;)

          That is what I thought but my wife pointed out that Mrs Cholmondey is a double where ours is a single.

          Looked up Mrs Cholmondey on Taylors Clematis and it is identical to mine. The picture I had previously showed a double.

          That was why my wife said it was not Mrs Cholmondey. However, as someone who has only heard of Nellie Moser, Mrs Cholmondey rang a bell, so perhaps she of infinite wisdom may be mistaken.
