Can anyone please tell me about these squashes

    the recipe i saw for water bottles involved shaking it with sharp rocks inside to help remove the pulp, then when the inside is smooth pouring molten bees wax inside and coating the inside with it to make it water proof. ive never tried this, only seen it online.


    very cool you grew them. id love to see a picture of the gourd and the patterns!

    I don't think I've got photos of them - having trouble with that at the moment but I will try once I get things updated. However, as I'm going back some 30 years, it's possible we are talking about different "bottle" gourds. The ones I grew had a slim neck and a bulbous base. To get anything inside to assist with pulp removal would mean removing the neck completely and leaving just a "bowl". I'd say mine are more decorative than useful. I must admit I haven't looked at what is available now so that could account for any misunderstanding on my part.

        could be more like the italian snake gourds. same species different variety. the asiian ones are more... waterbottle shaped :rolleyespink:
