    Hello all

Sorry for the poor photo but can anyone identify this plant:

    2019-09-22 08.51.15.jpg

This is a crop from a full photo of the border I took after the planting was done last September.

This plant seems to have disappeared and I have no idea what it is so I am unable to research it.

    Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks in advance

    Kevin

Hi Kevin, it's a Hosta. I don't know which one as there are literally hundreds. It needs a shady and damp position. Also, watch out for slugs/snails it's one of their favourite foods.

      Hello @KFF

Thanks for the reply and the information.

It is in a shady and damp position so that is fine although I think Slugs and Snails are the least of my problems with this plant at the moment.

As I stated above the plant is showing no signs of any life above ground, hopefully it will show some signs soon.

When do Hosta usually show signs of growth?

      Thanks in advance

      Kevin

As you're quite northern I wouldn't expect to see any growth ( in an open border ) for around another 4 weeks or so yet.

Yes, we are not far away from you and ours in pots still have not emerged.

You must use slug protection as soon as possible as the slugs and snails will take the tops off them, before you see them.

We tend to use large pots as we use Copper Tape around the pot to stop the snails climbing up and use pellets on the top pots soil this time of year.
When the leaves are all open we spray with a home made garlic solution which seems to work ok.
