Ok a question already, a few pics of my cannas in the greenhouse as you can see some of them have pushed the pots out of shape, so I'm just wondering how do you decide when to divide or repot?

Again, I'd wait another month or so, wait until you start to get new shoots from underground, then knock them out and divide up to good healthy looking parts with one or two strong shoots.

Often the centre part of the plant is not that great, so go for the good shoots around the outside.

A new canna for me. Canna Brazilliensis which is supposed to be hardy. I have about 30 young plants that will be going into the tropical area this year - some of them dotted about the heated bed

I also have Canna brasiliensis, they survive in ground here no problems, very tough. In fact they self sow everywhere, I have way to many now.. I have 200 seeds from last years harvest, theyre absolutely rampant.. but well worth it.

@mazambo, depends how many new Cannas you want. At this time of year you should be able to see the start of little shoots. So in your cuts try to get at least two shoots in each section. If you want to be safe cut them down the middle. That's what I normally do with my Cannas. I grew them from seed 7 years ago and have been splitting them ever since - wonderful plants for the garden or container.:blue thumb:
