I read that it is good to put cardboard in the compost, does this include corrogated cardboard as this is multiple layers glued together. I have no idea what sort of glue is used or if it is toxic. Also can I use shredded junk mail? What about card with a lot of printing on it?

    Thanks

    Harry

My knowledge is limited. But I would suggest not cardboard for the reasons you stated. Certainly shredded bills etc: Be careful with type of print you shred for compost. Seems like the shiny printed leaflets etc: may be toxic but your regular bills and home printed stuff seems OK. I have been doing it this way for years now and I seem to produce some good end product. Hope this helps.

I shred and add cardboard from items like corn-flake boxes as well as old correspondence, income tax demands etc., but never add glossy junk mail and flyers from the Pizza parlours. I have added small quantities of corrugated card with apparently no adverse effects -

Here is some I prepared earlier !

Definitely! Those bits of corrugated cardboard are great fun for the bugs to wiggle in and out of in the compost bin

The Centre for Alternative Technology did a study on it, they didn't find any trace of toxic chemicals in the end product.

They did find it was better to leave the lid off so the rain got in though.

Worms in composters seem to prefer corrugated cardboard to the likes of breakfast cereal and pizza boxes.

I use lots of cardboard in my compost heaps, in layers along with plenty of green stuff.
