My sister visited us this weekend , so we had a day out at Cartmel Cumbria. Walking through the priory we saw these two plants in the garden , presumably perennials .I think I know number two but the first one I have never seen.
    TIA

    1- About 2-3 feet tall

      Hi Harry ,

First one is Inula , a hardy perennial ( probably one of the I. Magnifica hybrids ).

Second is Ceratostigma ( Hardy Plumbago ) , as you say often used for ground cover.

PS... Lovely place with it's unique tower .

Hi HarryS, Inula rings a bell for the first and the second is hardy Plumbago, Ceratostigma plumbaginoïdes (or willmottianum...always have a job telling them apart ).
You beat me to it, @KFF :heehee:

          Thanks @KFF , @noisette47 :dbgrtmb:
The lovely Inula plant may be , Inula Orientalis which grows to 3 feet , do you think ? Other types as the Magnifica grow to 6 feet !
I have seen the Plumbago in a local nursery - and I have just the spot for it .Cartmel is a lovely village with the priory , racecourse , 5 pubs and 2 Michelin star restaurants - and also the home of sticky toffee pudding :blue thumb:
