      My 2p worth:
You don't buy a website, you buy a domain name eg, folly-mon.co.uk You then buy web space.
What you upload to this web space is entirely up to you. (its all yours) Once something has been uploaded it then becomes a website.

You can buy "template websites" that are just that. You get a template and you can change it to your liking, the "problem" is the more options you have the more it costs, this sounds ok until you realise the limits of "buying cheap"

A far better option is to buy the domain name and webspace yourself and either buy a web making programme or pay some one to do it for you.

You really can buy folly-mon.co.uk for £9.99 (For two years) then webspace will cost £21 / year

I would not worry too much about a TradeMark ™ as its easy to lift pictures from the web, but I would strongly suggest that you put your website name on any pictures you have on your website.

As for an online shop yes you can, but why try and re invent the wheel when you can use [IMG]

      I wish you luck.

Unless your business is going to be about media of any kind, or web design, I wouldn't spend much money at all on a website. In this day and age, individual web sites aren't really the way to go. Everyone goes to the likes of eBay, Facebook, and Amazon to buy stuff.

Don't pay £100 per page, which is what some 'web designers' will charge (and then 9 times out of 10 they'll use a template anyway).

What sort of timescales are we looking at? Will you be supplying the graphics or would the designer need to do that?

Depending on what you want, I might be able to help you out.

Sorry, I don't. I don't have anything to do with facebook, Amazon I use to get book (so far only brought 1, am considering book 2) and ebay I do look at but don't often buy, I search for non big websites and book mark them and use them, I find the service you get is very good, presumably as they are often small companies. And I would never shop online for "my our weekly food shop"

But I do agree with you about "don't pay £100 / page" what do you charge £50?:loll:

To be honest, I've done the whole freelance thing for a while a few years ago, and found it too much like hard work. Its easier to work for someone else and have a steady workload for a steady income. Nowadays I rarely take on web site projects for other people, but if I do, it is usually simple sites for very small money. I'd typically pass the work to one of my younger cronies as a training exercise, and let them do it but I watch over them, just so they get the experience really.

Will the existing sellers in your area be OK about somebody new moving onto their 'turf' ? Do you still get 'ice cream wars' these days?

For the type of business you are talking about Folly, there are a few things that you will need to control:-
                    1. The website MUST be fully accessible to you for modifications and additions. You MUST NOT be required to pay someone each time you want to change something.
                    2. the position on Google needs to be worked at. There is no need to pay someone. You need good keywords and regular submission (free web submission to google)
                    3. Facebook can work well locally for this type of business. Good experiences can travel far and wide in this medium and can create new and repeat business.
                    4. Websites I have control over have been supplied to me for £100 - £150 with all the information I have supplied fully installed with access to all areas for mods, amendments and additions. It is also hosted, supported and protected for a small annual fee.
My experience of Business Link in this area is that you are required to use specified service providers to gain access to financial support and the cost is astronimical (I was quoted £6k less 50% funding - to cost me £3k). I actually had the website set up for £450, which included a shopping cart.
Take your time and get your options sorted out first before you commit.

                      Have I got this right.

You have brought a VW van that you want to sell Ice cream, do-nuts and coffee from at various events, and you also want to sell mugs, sweatshirts umbrellas (and anything else) with pictures of your van on?

Why would people want to buy pictures of your van on a mug etc, when all they have to do is stand back and take a picture of your van with a camera? (Then if they really wanted to, get it printed on a mug at local "photo shop")

                      I really do not understand
"VW am Verry Strict as to wot you are Allowd to do EVEN IF IT IS YOUR OWN VAN"

Why do they care what you do to your van?

Will yours look something like this?

(Picture not taken form a mug)

Oh, and domain names do not have spaces, so don't tell any more people you have

split stop 63.com You can have splitstop63.com I don't suppose you would be too happy to have a load of printing done only to find the web address is wrong.

I would suggest you let the .com expire as the .co.uk says it all for you. (In the mean time you could point the .com to the .co.uk site)

i see exatley wot you are saying mine did have a intrear like that iv removed it to put a stain less steel counter in across the back and put my camping gear in the loft

business link told me to bye both names .com & co.uk
thats why they told me to create a trade mark TM For free to stop people doing this

i know and fully understand Fraudsters can and will do wot you have said

if i create a TM They told me its official merchendice and I Own the rights to it

so its fraud and copy rights

i know full well every one buys doggy gear eg fake trainers track suits that is wot they have advised me to try and stop it

as for VW a guy name Vernon Walker a speialist vw mercanic only used a vw badge he did not even use the circle just the V on top of the W & Writ his name around the vw

vw sent him a county court writ if it was not removed from his web site and his & letter heading he was going to court

for some reason vw am very strict this is the advice i have been given to save me the ake from business link

this is the reason i have took the root to get permistion

i do not want to make a fortune from the merchendice i want it as a side line to wot i am doing just on the advice i have been given am trying to go the right way about it

obveslie the van is not big enoughf to carry the stock like i have spoke about is the reason i want a web site with ebay shop on it un less at a later date i make a small traylor to pull and carry some stock with me

i hope iv explained this as its been explained to me
