Hi, im trying to grow a cherry blossom tree. It is just over a year old and doesn’t appear to be growing. I know its alive as it blossoms leaves and flowers. I’ve put mircale grow around it. I thought maybe a fox was eating the bark as the base is very thin. Therefore, I have now put some mesh around the base. However that is very tight and i’m worried it might damage the bark. any tips received would be much appreciated.

So, you have had it a year?
And it flowered and grew leaves last summer?

But it didn't make much new growth?

I can only assume it needs to get established.
Adding miracle grow during the winter is pointless as the plant will be dormant until late March/ April.
Think you need to give it time.

Hi and Welcome to the Forum,

Agree with what @pete has said and regarding the mesh you do not want it tight around the stem, just loosen it off a bit so it still acts as a deterrent.

Not sure if you mean the bark has actually been gnawed already or just looks thin, but would suspect squirrels or othe such smaller creatures before a fox ?

Would be interesting to know how tall it was when you bought it and how tall it is now and if its in a pot/tub or the ground and if its in full sun or shade or an exposed situation ?
A picture often helps as well.

Thank you. It was growing leaves and flowers in September/October. Maybe the bark just is thin. It’s grown about 5cm since I bought it. It’s exposed to all the ailments as it’s planted into the ground with no shade.

Ahh ok, well it shouldn't have been flowering in sept/ oct time.
They flower in spring and it should be leafless now.

Flowers around april/ may and leaves until autumn, then nothing until the next spring.

Your little tree looks very healthy in the photo. It is a good thing that it is not putting on lots of growth yet , it is busy putting out a good root system , to support a tree ! .
Let’s see how it looks now
