chilli pepper cayenne help

    hello, can any one please let me know if cayenne pepper is ground from any hot chilli peppers or is cayenne pepper made from a certain chilli.
    I know this will be a dumb question to most of the members on here but if someone could please let me know I would be very happy.

    I'm sure the "cayenne pepper" is the name of a variety of chilli pepper which is then ground to give you cayenne pepper, i would imagine the heat would vary depending on growing conditions etc.

      That's exactly right :blue thumb:. Cayenne pepper is a particular type of chilli. The heat of chillies change from time of year and growing conditions - and how long they have been on the plant.

      The heat is measured on the Scoville Scale and Cayenne is in the lower end of the very hot varieties and the upper end of the medium hot - hot varieties.
