I'm a novice gardener so I thought I would try to grow something from seeds (lol yeah) back towards the end of March.
So seeing as I was about to make a batch of chilli burgers, I like mine hot, she likes hers medium hot, so I remove the seeds from a few chilli's for hers and happily make them all.
Now the seeds I took from her chilli's I sprinkled into a tray (about 3 inches deep) with a mixture of soil from the garden and a bag of compost from the supermarket.
They started to grow a little after about 3 weeks so I thought I'd spil them up into smaller pots (see below).
    Now comes my problem!
Why do they all look different? or am I growing weeds which may have been in the mix of soil and compost? (soil I'm guessing as my garden hasn't been touched for years)
Please look at the photos (they are all growing in my conservatory) and tell me the bad news.
    Thanks

Sorry to say they are all weeds. 3" is too deep for chili seeds they won't be able to push their way through to the surface, I would sow about a quarter of an inch deep max.

Also I would just use shop bought seed compost as it will be sterlised I.e. no weed seeds nor bugs nor diseases lurking.

There are some common weed seedlings there, Forget-me-nots and Petty Spurge plus others.

Thanks for that, I'll dump them all then.
Would seeds taken from chilli's grow on kitchen roll. like cress does? could they be brought on that way?

Yes, we always start our chilli seeds off on kitchen roll and put in a seed sprouter similar to this

They were designed for quick sprouting edibles such as bean shoots but are perfect for seeds of plants.

We use them for chillies and toms etc. to get them started.
