Managed to pick a few more chillies today.
This time I have strung them and will attempt to air dry them instead of using the electric drier.
They started with a nice 20C sunny day in the conservatory today.

Just a follow up on the above chillies.
This is how they look now.
    Drying slowly and looking good

But. The amazing thing is the plants I have are still producing fruit as you can see in the pictures below.

I am delighted how they have turned out for a first years growth.

Third harvesting of chillies gathered today

These I have added to the ones that were air drying.
Chopped in half and now finishing in the electric dryer
Its been a real good year for chillies and I think maybe I have enough dried chillie in stock to keep me going for many a month.

Looks like you've had a very good crop Robert. We'd a few lingering on but the severe frosts have finished them off now.
Interesting that you cut them in half for dehydration. I just make a small slit in opposite sides which keeps them whole, though it does take a bit longer to dry them.

( Had a lovely spag bol this evening made using our own dehydrated baby toms and dried herbs. Leeks are frozen in the ground so had to resort to dried leeks from March for cockaleekie soup to use up the last of of the Xmas chook)

    Morning Dave
This particular batch took about 6 Hrs to dry to crispness.
They are now in a Kilner jar for storage.
Believe me when I say Just a small springling over your meal is enough:wink:
These are hot. I have enough to last me for months.

Hello Capney, I very much enjoyed your photos. Peppers are one of my favorite plants. Each year I try to grow several varities here in my garden in Cincinnati, Ohio. I usually air dry them on the back porch. Best Wishes, Rick

    HI Rick
Thanks for comments re my efforts at growing chillies.
2009 was the first year for me growing chillies.
All the plants where from seed and grew up in my conservatory.
I do believe that is the reason they did so well.
I shall maybe reduce the amount next year as some of them nearly reached the roof of the conservatory even after trimming to size.
Good luck with your chillie growing.
We always like to see pictures on the forum

    Hey John
I use an electric dehumidefier to dry my chillies. The first harvest was dried this way and then I crushed them and they are stored in an airtight container.
Just a sprinkling is all I need.
They can be air dried and used as required. I have not used this method as 09 was the first year for my chillies and I also had a bucket loads of tomatoes I also dried in the drying.
Can I suggest you do a forum search for "chillie" Theres quite abit about the subject.
Shout if you help any more info. Im sure we can help with whatever
    robert
