I'm now getting intermittent problems when trying to use the Reply button. It jumps to the editor screen, but nothing is there.

I'm sure the accompanying red wine and stout will deal with that.

Well, my pigs in blankets were burnt, and the veggies weren't all that great by the time I got back from the call out yesterday, so I am going to have another shot at it this evening - - hopefully I will get at least one Christmas dinner this year.

Ha ha, the bf must have put the sprouts on to steam at about 11.30 and we didn't eat till about 1. They were practically liquid. But we ate them anyway.

I'm going to have to confiscate that steamer.

Dinner here on Christmas day was a great success, marred only by the absence of a good friend of mine who not only failed to show, but had also vanished from Facebook and his mobile phone was dead too. He was travelling up from Portsmouth and I'd seen the news emerging from that neck of the woods so had visions of him being either stranded in darkness in his upstairs flat, or in a rescue centre somewhere. I'm relieved to be able to report that he's contacted me just this evening via Facebook to report that he is ok and to apologise for not making it and not being able to contact me.

But anyway, dinner, great success. Apart from my slight concern for my friend, we had a great day, but very tiring.

Today's mission to wife's grand parents was also a great success. I was complimented unanimously on my cooking skills, my missus did sterling work setting everything up, but by far the most important thing was that I could see on the old folks' faces a 'life/spark' that I've not seen for a few years now. If I'm honest, it is usually a bit boring round there these days. Nobody has anything new to say so conversion usually consists of barber talk (how's the job going... car running ok etc), but there was endless conversation this afternoon. Granny suggested that we do it again any time, which was nice and I was thinking it anyway, so after we came out I suggested it to wife that maybe we wont go to the great effort of a christmas dinner too often, but we could at least go round for 'Saturday Sandwich day' which has become a bit of a tradition in our house (ie we get back from wherever we've been, and to save time on cooking, I just cut up some nice bread, stick it in the middle of the table with a selection of fillings, and we all just took in).

So glad your day with the old 'uns was such a great success andthat "feel good " factor is worth a great deal Clue.
I have be saying to my inner self for years that I should go to a Centre and help serve a Christmas meal to the really needy. I'd be happy washing up out the back - just need a waterproof pinny and a pair of heavy duty Marigolds.
Well done for going that extra mile,
                        Jenny

The same thought has crossed my mind many times, but not so much for the 'needy', but just ordinary people who might be a bit lonely. Young or old, male or female, black or white, devout in religion or total atheist, I don't care. People are people. I'd like to maybe persuade one of the local churches or clubs to let me borrow a hall to turn into a dining hall just once a year for christmas or boxing day dinner. I think it would be great for community spirit as much as anything else, but I have no idea how to even start organising such a thing. I think it would be fun. As tiring as it is, I love organising a special dinner for close friends and family. Imagine how much more exciting and challenging it would be if the numbers were increased tenfold.

Is that Quorn sausage kebabs? We had our tradition Quorn Family Roast with Quorn Sausage toad-in-the-hole with roastie parsnips & spuds with peas, cabbage and stuffing balls.

Following our success at the Morissons Xmas Eve 9p sale we're been obliged to have 1 pack of Quorn Deli slices with every single meal since Xmas Eve (toasted Ham Style Deli & cheese - also 9p/pack - sandwiches for breakfast this morning) and have also had to eat raspberry trifle for desert after every single meal including breakfast. We should get through them by the end of today.

My mam is like that. I'd poured myself a glass of red and others were pouring themselves some. I was paying attention to my food rather than anyone else at that moment when I suddenly heard immense giggling. I looked up, and said "I see my mam has sniffed the wine then", which then resulted in considerably more chuckling. It has not gone unnoticed in our family and close friends that while most drinks just make my my chill out, red wine has a strange reaction that makes her so she'd laugh if her derriere was on fire.
