On Friday I found this 'coin' in a garden. It is to commemorate Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee. Minted in 1897. It depicts four generations of the British Royal Family(Who?) on the face and the Irish,English and Scottish emblems on the reverse.
It's in good condition but does need cleaning. I have tried vinegar and silver foil which is working but I wonder if anyone out there knows a quicker way to clean it without causing damage.

    Agree with Capney.

However if you want to clean it then I rekon a quick dip in a sonic bath would be the best way without abrading it. Any jewlers or opticians will have one.

I,ve just spent the last 30 odd minutes googling this item. but not a sighting of it anywhere. 1897 was Queen Victoria Diamond Jubilee and I believe it to be a commemarative item.
    Any coin experts on G.C?

Lovely coin Nick and a lucky find.:thumb: Somewhere in this house I have a booklet issued by Readers Digest I think it is that gives info and photos of old coins.Trouble is I don't exactly know where it is because when we moved a lot of stuff that was boxed up has gone up the loft and havn't been opened yet.:)

I was on the Royal Mint site the other night have you had a check on that site because it gave lots of info and prices for Commemorative coins.I was trying to find info on £5 coins that I have to see where they can be used.

I wouldn't touch it with anything to clean it up,until you find out more about it.:)
