    Hi

Just after some advice about clematis in my new garden.

I'm trying to sort out a rather overgrown trellis. It's just a mass of entwined plant and I think there are a couple of different plants here. (See pics).

What are they and what is the best way of tackling it? Shall I leave it, tie it up, chop it back? I'm trying to clear out the base as its overgrown with bluebells etc. any advice appreciated.

    Thanks

    H

I'd start by tieing it up the trellis - then sort out the base, just be careful you don't snip the clematis stalks.

PS: It's very difficult to ID clematis without seeing a flower, even then there are 1000's of varieties. Don't despair as generally people plant a few tried and trusted favourites, but we would have to wait till the flowers appear.
