clematis wilt

hi everyone

last season i had to cut back a clematis before it had flowered because it had suddenly looked very distressed and was looking the worse for wear, ther were no drought conditions and no signs of aphids. i suspect clematis wilt i cut the plant right back and this year is growing again, any suggestions on treatment this season to prevent a reoccurence.

So long as your clematis is planted lower than the existing ground level it should do fine. I am not aware of any specific treatment which would help otherwise

 

About the only thing you can do is to protect the shoots from snail damage. They love eating the base of the stems and it is this which allows Wilt to get in, and more often than not, it is snail damage rather than wilt which causes a Clematis to collapse like that.
