    Hello all

    I hope you are well.

Firstly, @ARMANDII , you are cordially invited to help, please.

I have a couple of relatively new Clematis, planted last September, which are growing well, after a few scares, the thing is that they only have one Main Stem.

There is a Nelly Moser and a Rouge Cardinal.

Is there any way to encourage more Main Stems?

    Thanks in advance

    Kevin

    Always, Kevin:love30::thumbsup:

When you say only one main stem is it a stem with only a top growth or does the Clematis have any tendrils to cling on anything? Can you post any pics?......that would help.

    Hello @ARMANDII

Thanks for answering the call :)

By only one Main Stem I mean there is only one Stem growing from below ground level,

    Here are a few Photos:

    1. Rouge Cardinal

    2. Nelly Moser

Just for completeness since we are discussing Clematis, this is the Nelly Moser that died right back to the ground late last year which I posted about on here.

    3. Nelly Moser (Resurrected)

This has now got two Main Stems.

    Thanks in advance

Hi Kevin, thanks for the pics:thumbsup: Okay, there's nothing to worry about as not all Clematis in their first year or early growth put out multiple main stems and your's look pretty healthy so don't worry, just water and feed them and next year you will get more stems.:cat-kittyandsmiley::coffee:

    Hello Kevin,
I am not an experienced gardener but I know that it is recommended to plant clematis much deeper than when you bought it to encourage more new stems growing.

      Hello @Black Orchid

      Thanks for the reply.

When I had the Garden planted in September 2019 I was told to basically plant the Clematis at double the depth of the pot, which was done, hopefully that will help.

I seem to be having some teething issues with two of the five Clematis at the moment which have died right back to soil level, a Nelly Moser and a Rouge Cardinal.

Earlier this year another two died right back, a Daniel Deronda and another Nelly Moser, the Daniel Deronda is now approximately 24" and has multiple Flowers and the Nelly Moser is just about 18" tall at the moment, no flowers but looks healthy.

Hopefully the other two will recover as well.

      Thanks

      Kevin
