Climbing Roses

Hi folks once again im hoping you can help. I have 3 climbing roses (against a wall) which have been growing behind a tangle of winter Jasmine. They are probably at a height of around 12ft. My aim is to take the jasmine down to around 3ft to run along below the window, hedge style, and keep the climbers. However, ive noticed the climbers are woody up to around the final 3ft at the top. would it be possible for me to cut them right back near the base and expect new growth. The main stems do appear to be very old but as i say there is new growth coming off at the top. There doesnt appear to be any new stems coming up, this could possibly be caused by the lack of light into the main part of the plant. ??

Hi Mick...When I first grew Climbers I was unaware that I had to keep them 'low' to encourage new growth and flowering buds.
I think you should cut back and train new lateral growth by weaving stems which will give more flowers and newstems too.

what the quickest growing type/types you could buy?would love to have some up to the bedrooms in the front of my house and along the wall to the front door.Thing is if i done this when i said yrs ago could have had some well established ones there by now...
