Colocasia runner

    Today I went to my local asian shop , to get some soft yam (discorea)
    and found this one that I never seen before ....

    it actually colocasia runners sold as vegetable .....
    should I try to grow?????

      Hmmm ... I think they made needs to still b attached to the plant to have energy to develop roots at the "nodes", but FWIW I grow mine like strawberry runners - pegging them "across" the soil in a pot, but still attached to the parent, and then cut off later once rooted.

      Pretty sure that Dave on Hardy Tropicals said he chopped some up (that had dried right out over winter) and they all grew! I'll see if I can find a link.

          Very interesting - it explains how named varieties are propagated. Looks like you can ger much more that way than by splitting up the tuber itself.

          for my experience just the Xanthosoma produce runners ,
          that shop always impressing me , even seen banana flowers on sale ....alocasia stems and leaves sold as food ......

          What was it called in the shop Sal? Eddoes or something similar? Just so I know what to ask for.

          He told me the asian name , really can`t remember , what I remember is that he told me to take off the skin as the skin is poisonous .....
          I`ve just filled a try with them and still have loads left over .....
