for laying hens. what do you use, those of you that have hens?

We mixed some layer pellets with mixed corn at a 50/50 ratio, but the chickens seem to leave/chuck out the wheat and eat mainly the layer pellets.

is there any other chicken food out there that we could add to the mix, or should we just lower the ratio of corn?

You must have very unusual chickens, most will climb over you to eat the corn before the pellets.

Chickens are like children. Would you feed your children treats and sweets before veggies? If they are healthy, they only need layers pellets or mash, available ad lib. Corn should only be given as a treat/bribe, or perhaps before an hour before they roost as it does give them a bit of fuel for cold winter nights. It's also very handy for cajolling timid hens, if necessary.

Ours get a handful of corn in early evening and it sees them fine until the morning. They have pellets available throughout the day and get whatever else they need from free ranging.

No, layers mash is the same as pellets, just not in pellet form but loose. Some people prefer to use it as warm water can be added to it to make a porridge like mush which is good in winter...but you can do the same with pellets. Mash tends to get chucked about with their beaks, as they hunt for the bigger bits and if it gets wet, goes sour and inedible very quickly.
