I am looking to improve the condition of my soil for Rhododendronds etc. I found an aticle by Monty Don in March 2005 saying to use 100% Composted Bracken to lower the PH, but I just con not find a suppier anywhere. Most bracken appears to be blended to provide a balanced compost. No good for me. Any ideas?

Collect some from the woods and make your own? Or do you want vast quantities?

The only place we have ever seen seling it, was the National Trust shop in Cardingmill Valley near Church Stretton in Shropshire.

You are welcome to ALL my bracken - we wage a constant war to stop it encroaching, it wrecks your hands to pull it out......

Perhaps you could compost yours and sell it!
If you just cut it down you wouldn't suffer. :D

I tend to pull it up so that I can dispose of it (never thought of selling it!) so that the horses don't eat it - it's the only green thing in the fields at the moment.

    Hi Midlands Cockney.
If you google for bracken you will find some interesting articles about it,then you might get some idea why it isn't readily available as a compost alternative

We have plenty of Ferns. I was wondering if composting Ferns also produces ericaceous soil in the same way that composting bracken is said to make soil more ericaceous?
