Conifer hedging

On a recent trip to Ypres Reservoir Cemetery, where my gt uncle is buried, I noticed this immaculate conifer hedging.

Does anyone know what type of conifer they may have used and how quickly they grow? (I’ll also google it-but also wanted to share how immaculate they keep the cemeteries-brilliant gardeners)

 

Iam on my phone but it looks like a thuja plicata ( western red cedar)

They're commonly known as pencil conifers @Snorky85. I've found some here on this website but can't recommend the nursery as I've not used it.

Can't really say. Thuja plicata does have close branching and also bears seed cones that are squar shape with hookes corners. Seed cones smell like pineapples.

 

Its always difficult to identify plants accurately from photographs. Bearing that in mind, I would have guessed at them being Thuja Occidentalis rather than Plicata.

If they are, growth rate here is 25cm plus a year. I would normally trim them twice a year, but sometime three times depending on conditions.
