I purchased coreopsis 'Heavens gate' as plug plants from a well known on line supplier ( maybe a mistake! ).
On arrival there were brown twigs ( last year's growth? ) surrounded by fine grass like shoots . I'm not sure if these are this current year's growth. Is anyone familiar with coreopsis and confirm that these plants look normal? Is coreopsis a very spreading perennial ?

    Never grown them.
Can you knock them out the pots and see if the roots are all coming from the centre old growth.

Again not grown them, but looking at this site it looks like those shoots are Coreopsis; seems the crown does not always survive the winter but the rizomes do.
