    Hi All,

I don't think I have enough room to plant my courgettes in the raise beds, therefore I need to plant in pots. At present I do not have any pots big enough, so need to purchase some. Can I grow them in potato bags? Does anyone grow in pots or bags and if so how big do they need to be.

I always grow mine in pots, as more than half of my garden is patio. Sainsburys are selling large pots at the moment for £3.50 that would be ideal for you. Alternatively, consider a Wickes/Homebase/B&Q bucket at 99p each!

The only caveat really is to make sure you water copiously, daily, especially once the fruit has set.

I grow my mini cucumbers and mini pumpkins in pots as I do not have ground space. I have them on a ledge with full sun and let them trail. As fc says, they need copious amounts of water.

Yes very well @rustyroots I have grown mine for year most successfully in potato bags.. Bigger amount of compost keeps the roots cool and moist watering daily in hot weather, never let the compost dry out in the bag though.. Good Luck, this is the first year I haven't grown any, typical, otherwise I could have taken a pic..

Thanks for the replies. I will try in the potato bags as these are only £1:50 for 2 at Wilko. I am going to use a 50:50 mix of rotted horse manure and multi purpose compost.

What variety are your going to grow ?

Have got Patio Star in a container and its seems to be growing happily in a 50cm diameter plastic pot without become a monster.
          Several fruits on it already.

I've planted one of mine in a woven supermarket carrier bag which was in the back of the cupboard doing nothing
