We planted about 1000 crocus and a further 200 Siberian Squill in late September, early October. Virtually all of them were planted in areas of mature grass with a few croci in containers. Those in the containers are through and starting to flower but those in the grass are a no show. Have we done something wrong?
I removed a core about 4" deep, put a little compost in the bottom then filled back up with the removed soil.

@Jocko I doubt if you have done anything wrong, could be soil temperature with the containers warming up a bit quicker than the soil.
Four inches was probably a bit on the deepish side for the crocuses; most of mine get put in about two inches down. The soil down there will take a bit longer to warm up though and make them a bit later into bloom.
Most bulbs are able to adjust their depth in the soil over time, so they should sort themselves out in the next year or so..

None of my crocuses or squill are out yet. There is the odd one poking through but nothing of any significance.

My Crocus tommasinianus (early spring crocus) are flowering nicely in the sunniest parts of the garden elsewhere they are just starting. Crocus malyi again in a sunny spot is in full bud, other varieties are just poking through.

The reason I planted them at 4" was that's what it said in the packets. Perhaps next year they will be through earlier.

Being in a similar climate to yours @Jocko although further north, I don't expect to see my Crocus before the end of February.

That's good to know. My wife is fair concerned.

The only bulbs of mine that are flowering so far are a few of the snowdrops. Not all the snowdrops are flowering yet. Everything else is just green shoots, with the most promising a pot of miniature daffodils that have clear flower buds that look almost ready to break into flower. My outdoor hyacinths have the small green beginnings of flowers. My crocuses aren't flowering yet.

Just green shoots here as well. Normally we see Crocus in the last half of February.

For me only a few species crocus in flower so far in sunny spots (tommassanianus and a yellow one I forget the name of). The regular garden hybrids are green shoots only.

As for Siberian Squill, I'm not even seeing shoots yet.

We are not even seeing crocus shoots at the moment (except in the tubs and those that were always there). The new ones in the grass are still to show. My wife went out this morning sprinkling Growmore everywhere!

No flowers on crocus around here yet.
They never flower that well for me anyway.

They are already flowering over here.

Wish I had planted a few more, but during Corona times and with the birth of my son I kind of forgot until it was too late.

You can always plant some more this November. I take photos of the flowering positions of Crocus and Tulips, then I know the empty spots that I need to replant in the Autumn.
Congrats on the birth of your son by the way :blue thumb:

After planting 1,000 I hope I have no empty spots but if I do I will go down the photograph route and plant some more.
