      @Gizmo

Hi, Gizmo, well, wood preserver and staining liquids while being the same colour on the brush will not stay the same because of the different grains, resins, oils, and types of wood, so you will get different results with the different characteristics of different woods.

I believe this is not uncommon.
The sure way to maintain an even shade would be to mix a couple of tins together in a clean bucket and then put it all back into the tins.
Another method could possibly be to apply a light top coat to both planters from the same tin. It depends how exact you want your planters to look.
You did a great job making them Gizmo so i guess they deserve a uniform finish.

When buying paint allways check the batch numbers on the tins and make sure the numbers are the same

What are we looking at in that picture?
Looks like you have painted the bottom 3 but not the top 1.

                Did you stir it?

Thanks for your reply yes I painted the bottom 3 first. Then got rid of corner box and old pond. So I added another layer to the raised beds to get rid of the soil got the 4 litre tin out of shed stirred it a lot and painted all sleepers so found it strange when it dryed I put 3 coats on top sleeper. I looked on both amazon accounts for pass orders both lots of tins of paint 4 litre and 1 litre was bought from the same sellar both tins no batch numbers but look identical
                  Thanks

And both stated "Golden Cedar" as the colour?

Only the top layer looks like it might be clear cuprinol, depending on what the colour of the sleeper was to start with.

Both tins said golden cedar but different size. The sleepers are the same what we used before. The paint does not look clear to me but I am slightly colour blind. Look at the colour behind the sleepers on the grass that was done last year but the other picture of the sleepers was done this year on the top ones only
                      Thanks

Well there does seem to be a problem with the can you have recently bought.
I'd presume the one you used last year is what it should look like.

In the bottom picture of the 4 row sleepers the colour should be the same on the top where new sleepers where put.
The picture with the sleepers in front of the raised bed the bed was done last year but looks faided to me so I got a 4 litre tin of the same stuff so I am suprised that the colour does not look like same.
                          Thanks

                            Hi,

The batch number that @Jiffy mentions is only viewble if you are in a shop, online purchases will not involve it unless you are buying more than one can and ask the seller to check for you.

There can always be a difference in shades between manufacturing batches, hence the batch numbers, but generally the difference is small.
Also the age of the paint can affect the colour

That said some Dulux emulsion we bought was way off its colour chart, took it back the shop who also agreed it was nothing like it should be, so even the big names can get it wrong.

Think all you can do is paint the untreated sleeper and see if it dries and blends in ok, if not then painting all of the sleepers with another full coat might produce an even colour.

Might be a while before you can use it, as you need a mild and dry day to apply it, preferabley after a day or two of dry weather so the wood is not soaked.

Thanks for your reply. This is the sleeper info
Wickes Garden Sleepers - Light Green 100 x 150mm x 1.2m - High-quality garden sleeper which is pressure treated for longer life and to help resist rot. Easier to handle smaller size.
                              Brand: Wickes

I did do the sleepers on the top approx 2 weeks ago when we had sunshine. With the make of cuprinol I have used it on garden furniture but find that even after undercoat it does not seem to cover properly even with 3 plus coats.
What is the difference between cuprinol ultimate and the one we have posted about
Or is there any better make of paint for sleepers and garden furniture

Cuprinol is a leading brand although i use Ronseal myself.. Their products rarely disappoint.
