Mimi Farina



Mimi is a folk singer/songwriter and the younger sister of Joan Baez.

I have always been a fan of Joan and saw her perform at the Finsbury Park Rainbow Club in 1971. That area of London was one of my old haunts and the Rainbow used to be the Astoria cinema which had a fantastic foyer and when the film Bridge On The River Kwai previewed there they had a very large model of the bridge in the foyer.

Just down the road from there was the Finsbury Park Empire which was used in the Cliff Richard film The Young Ones (1961). It was the derelict theatre in the film that the Young Ones renovated to perform their show (it was really derelict and demolished in 1965 - I think).

I was at the last show at the Empire when it closed in 1960. Emile Ford and the Checkmates topped the bill (sang his No.1 hit What Do You Want To Make Those Eyes At Me For?) and the only other act I remember was The Lana sisters (not sisters ) which included Dusty Springfield (Mary O'Brien).

I'm a mine of useless information.
