Whilst walking the dogs a week ago, I noticed what I thought was a cycas on the streem bed next door to us. There has not been a day gone bye when I havn't worried about it.

Today I managed to get hold of the next door neighbour and had the poor thing donated to me.

The fronds/leaves are mostly yellow, but the trunk seems firm so I think it may have escaped frost damage. I have cut all dead looking fronds off (got bitten by it in the process) and re-potted into deep clay pot and sprayed with fungiside.

Any hints on keeping the beast alive welcom.

    How big is it Waco?
All you can do really I would guess is keep the roots just damp and the whole plant frost free and wait and see what happens.
They can be notorius for sitting sulking for ages, possibly for a year or more, doing nothing ,and then suddenly bursting into growth.

Also Waco, don't move the plant around or the fronds will twist. :(

Thanks all, got picture now, I think it may have a few years on it. so strongy, I presume you mean not to turn it to get even sun distribution. I have another Cycas, but I have room for two if I get this one back up to health.

I remembered this coming up in a post early last year and the advice then was not to move cycads as they will twist, this not through personal experience as I haven't moved mine since I bought it, so I am following this advice too. :D

Its only when new fronds are forming that you shouldn't move the plant. Once the fronds are fully grown and hardened it OK to move them as you like.

That was me, strongy, as mine got a new skirt of fronds. T'other half has not moved it an inch and it / they (the fronds) are looking wonderful ... excellent advice, thank you.
