dahlia imperialis

    was given an dahlia imperialis [tree dahlia]it is a triffid it gets to about 6 metres, blooms in late autumn, has anyone grown one and how hardy is it, it can get cold in autumn do not want to lose it

    [​IMG] Hi brazil, It is a plant from central America so I wouldn't have thought it was hardy. Try googling there are allot of sites with info on it & some are uk. Wonderful plant, will be interested to know how you get on. Best of luck. [​IMG]

    Brazil, When I was at Wisley garden a few weeks ago I think they had it bedded out in the borders.
    Dont know but presume you treat it like any other Dhalia.

    plant centre and occasionally botany amazing place lunch in the gardens and all that it is a top job

    Sounds good, especially this time of the year. Have a look up near the greenhouses in the tropical borders, where the bananas and cannas are, I think that where I saw the Dahalias.
