I was asking about one last year:

      http://gardenerscorner.co.uk/forum/threads/dash-cams-are-they-a-good-idea.87231/

I ended up buying this one for £49 from E-Prance on Amazon, which is now unavailable
      https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00MIOT1QK

Trouble with these gadgets as soon as you buy them they become obsolete by newer better more featured packed models. I'm happy with the one I got though and wouldn't be without it, it's just insurance really.

This seems to be an equivalent model to the one I've got:
      https://www.amazon.co.uk/E-PRANCE-Recorder-Screen-G-Sensor-Infrared/dp/B00LCSATE6

Luckily I have never had to resort to using the footage other than for amusement. Recently a lady without looking stepped into the road straight in front of me, I had no time to stop so steered around her at about 30mph! Watching the playback in slow motion I can see the shock on her face as she suddenly realised what was happening. No harm done that time.

The main limitation with mine is the night vision is a bit dark, it has some LEDs to illuminate the road but they are not really up to the job.

Yikes! On mine the screen switches itself off whilst the car is in motion to avoid distractions.

Daughter's boyfriend has a fleet of lorries and he has done loads of research on dash cams. I have asked daughter if she knows good makes and she has asked what you want the cam for ie is it to record any serious incident that might happen and you need to be able to record the number plate of another vehicle? As a dash cam is mostly recording moving objects it needs to update constantly, very cheap dash cams aren't able to give a clear picture, they are grainy and stuttered.
She thinks it isn't likely to get anything which will produce a good clear picture for your budget unfortunately. The ones her boyfriend bought for the lorries he got from Halfords and were in the region of £80 /£90 she thinks. If you want her to find out what make/model they are let me know. You can evidently rig up your phone to work pretty much as a dash cam. I haven't the faintest about this but maybe you could find out about how on the net. By the way daughter has a class 1 driving licence and drives refrigerated artics all over Britain so has had quite a bit of experience of dash cams and agrees it's a bit of a minefield trying to work out which are good and which aren't.

You are right things are getting quite a bit worse hence why daughter's BF has bought dash cams for the lorries! Glad that daughter has only ever been "over the water" to Ireland. I would have been horrified if she had had to run the gauntlet to the likes of Calais,. She's met many trampers who were getting threatened/ lorries damaged at the Channel ports in France long before the situation hit the headlines.

I stoped driving just before it was getting worst, so i'm happy and i would even want to do that run now, not even for £1000000

I have a cheapo dash cam from fleabay - it's actually quite good.

Ended up in Halfords yesterday - seeking a new car battery - some of their high end dash cams are on sale - £99.

If I get another dash cam - I'll shell out a few more quid and get one that has GPS - so location and more importantly speed is recorded on the video.

I have this irrational fear that at some time in the future I'm involved in an accident and I'm accused of going too fast. If the video evidence shows that I was driving too fast, I just won't mention the video - if it shows I was driving slowly then I will mention it.
